The internet has truly changed the way that people find and use porn, and the ever increasing number of downloadable DVD sites is one of the surest signs of this fact. Xmovies.com is one such site that offers members the chance to download DVD porn titles directly to their computers, giving access to a vast database of materials right in the comfort of your home. The amount of content offered at the site is far above and beyond what the majority of adult sites in general are offering, but the competition for this category of sites is tough with some very impressive sites being offered. It really takes a lot to stand out in this crowd, so let's see what X Movies has to offer.

The layout of the site is pretty similar to other DVD download sites I have seen. On the left side, you can access a menu of categories including things like gonzo, mature, squirting and teens. A search box is provided to search for key words, and you can also sort by studio, series and pornstar. On the other side of the page is a section for the "top picks" so I decided to check those out first.
It becomes clear pretty early on that the viewing options here aren't exactly consistent. Several of the top picks weren't even offered for download, but rather streaming only in fairly low bitrates that just didn't look that good. As I explored the site more, I saw many titles that were streaming only, but luckily there are plenty that are available for download as well. Each DVD is broken into scenes, and for the WMV format download options, the scenes are further broken into pieces. Full length DivX and MPEG format files are offered for download with the DivX being the highest quality offered at around 1100 kbps and a size of around 528x400 pixels. While these DivX videos do look pretty nice, there is usually noticeable quality loss when enlarging to full screen mode that would prevent me from watching them in that way. An MPEG version is also available for some titles and has a bitrate of around 700 kbps, while the WMV formats are offered in 256 and 512 kbps.

The collection on the site as of this moment stands at 1277 with a new title being added daily. While that makes for a killer update schedule for just about any site, there are other DVD download sites that add as many as five titles per day. It's hard to say how the collections from one site to another may differ without undertaking a title-by-title comparison, but luckily you can browse what's available on the site without joining, so if you are curious if you should join X Movie or another similar site to find the most titles you will like, take a look at the titles available on the site before making your decision. Well, xmovies.com has certainly kept up with its promise of a new title daily and has amassed a collection of over 1555 full length DVDs already. They've also increased their top quality levels for the downloadable videos so you'll want to check out the updated stats.
Overall things are looking much better in terms of quality, but when you compare the usability and features here to the leaders in the DVD download category, xmovies.com is still behind in my opinion. For example, I ran into several streaming-only videos in just a few minutes while browsing the top picks section.
The site mentions a new feature that allows you to skip around within a scene instantaneously, but I was unable to get it to function at all. My suggestion about checking out the tour pages of several DVD download sites before joining is still very apt, but the size alone definitely makes this one worth checking out. |
