Private.com is the online version of a European adult magazine that's been around since 1965. The website offers archives of the print version of Private dating all the way back to its very first issue as well as archives of other magazines by the same publisher including Pirate, Triple X and Sex as well as various bonus issues and books they've put out over the years. It's quite a large collection before you even consider the video content, and browsing the older issues is a great trip down memory lane (or stroll through history for those of us too young to remember.) The more recent materials remind me of Hustler in the way they combine hardcore action with the slick, airbrushed style of high gloss magazines. This is about as far from amateur as it gets and will probably appeal exclusively to those who prefer posed, set-up looking porn shots as opposed to real action.

The photos at private.com can be viewed in galleries in the "stars" section, or you can just view the magazines that they are taken from by going to the magazine section. The magazines themselves can be downloaded in JPG or PDF format and you can actually read the articles as well as look at the pictures. In total there are over 900 photo shoots averaging 15 pictures each available at Private. Displayed on the site, the pictures are usually just around 580 pixels on the long side, but if you download them in PDF format, they will display much larger and can even be enlarged from their regular size and still look good.

The video section at Private has over 390 DVDs, but the big downfall here is that everything is DRM protected. Basically that means that once your subscription runs out, the videos you've downloaded will no longer work. The value of having access to so many movies is significantly reduced by this restriction. The flicks are downloadable by scene in WMV format, or you can stream them on the site in your choice of three quality levels, the highest of which should usually work for full screen viewing, although not all movies have the same specs. iPod and PSP format options are offered as well.

Fans of Private will surely be pleased with the huge archives here...

In addition to the magazine, picture and video content here, there are also live cams available 24 hours a day, although I didn't see anything more than a fully clothed woman sitting in front of a computer on the several times I checked. Updates come once per week, but anywhere from seven to 12 things are added at once, so it's equivalent to at least daily updates elsewhere.

Overall, I found pretty much what I expected to find here at private.com, lots of great magazine archives and restrictive video rules which seems to be the norm for these magazine-based sites. Fans of Private will surely be pleased with the huge archives here, but for those looking for the biggest bang for their buck, someplace without DRM restrictions for the videos will be a better deal for you. Membership is about $29 for 30 days.

I was hoping that when I revisited private.com, they would have removed the DRM restriction, but unfortunately, that is not the case here. At the very least, I expected that they would have kept up with updates as promised, but that isn't entirely the case.

Magazine archives and galleries seem to be added regularly, but the video section hasn't grown at all despite the fact that the update log lists two new titles each week. The DRM was bad enough, but this misleading info about video updates really reflects badly on the site in my opinion.

If the DRM issues and lack of actual video growth doesn't bother you, the large archive of photo content and magazines probably makes this one worth a look despite the issues.
