Dvdunlimited.com offers over 2250 DVD titles for download in a large variety of categories, with multiple video options and formats. With all that taken into consideration, I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I didn't like the site. I guess I've been spoiled by all of the DVD download sites I've been reviewing lately, because this one just didn't cut it, and here is why.

From the start, the site just didn't LOOK as good as some of its competitors, particular videobox.com, which is the site to beat when it comes to downloadable DVDs. But beauty is skin deep, as they say, so I was willing to give DVD Unlimited the benefit of the doubt until I saw their navigation and search system, or, more to the point, their lack thereof. Initially upon entering the site, you are presented with a completely unorganized list of all titles on the site spanning over 220 pages. For each title, there is a picture of the DVD cover, several preview pictures, and a bit of scene information such as running time and category. At the top of the page, almost hidden in the busy and crowded graphics, there is a single drop down menu that allows you to choose from categories such as teen, Asian, anal, bisexual, BDSM, lesbians, and more. The problem is that this is the one and only way of searching or sorting the over 2250 titles on the site. There's no search box and no way to sort by porn star name, series or studio.

There are two different prices for membership here, the higher of the two provides for the highest quality download, while the lower gives access to only "medium" quality. I had a chance to check out both and I can say that overall, the higher quality is definitely better enough to be very noticeable, particularly in full screen mode. Each DVD title is split up and downloadable by scene, though unlike most of the other DVD download sites I've reviewed, streaming is not supported here which is just another area where dvdunlimited doesn't quite match its competition. The scenes are downloadable in one or two quality levels in MPEG format, depending on your subscription price, three qualities in WMV format and three qualities in MOV format. iPod format is also provided.
The site has somewhat conflicting information about updates. In once place it states that five titles are added every day, in another it says that "up to five" titles are added per day. Looking at the dates on the content, it appears that it's been at least five days since anything has been added, so neither is actually correct.
The bottom line with dvdunlimited.com is that, while it far surpasses what is available on the vast majority of websites out there, it's in a category with some extremely stiff competition and, simply put, it doesn't even come close to any of them. This is without a doubt at the bottom of the list of similar sites that I personally have reviewed. However, on the positive side, access costs just $1 for a trial! |
